Time Flies...

Wow, how a year flies by. Just the other day I was blog hopping and ended up on a blog that pointed out that there were 100 days to go in this year. The blogger had decided to try an accomplish a bunch of things in those 100 days. I was inspired. I started to think about the beginning of this year and how good I felt about how far I'd come but how much more I wanted to accomplish before 2010 was over.

So, I'm making plans, writing lists and taking action. Yes. I am action oriented and totally inspired by my 100 day sprint to the end of the year. Are you inspired to try and accomplish something you wanted to do this year? Jump on the band wagon, let's go! I'm driving, you bring the mixed tape of inspiring music. Anyone else wanna join? My virtual car will hold everyone. ;o)

If you'd like to see more mosaics, go to Artmind and peruse the list. Mitsy hosts a link party every Tuesday. Before I sign off I want to add a little explanation and a couple of links about doing a mosaic.

One of my readers and blog friends, Colleen, asked how I do the four picture thing. So, here's what you do. First, go to Flickr.com and sign up. Start collecting favorite pictures or upload the pictures you'd like to put into a mosaic. Then, go to this mosaic maker site and pick the configuration you want. If you want the configuration I'm using, just leave the settings as is. Then click on the first box and go to your flickr account. Pick the pictures you want for each square then click finish. It will show you your mosaic that you can now click to save on your desktop. If you want to add a border just go here and upload your mosaic. Fiddle with the colors and width of border and TADA!!! There you go, a very professional mosaic. :o)

Okie Dokie Pokie, I'm off to watch some new pilot show I have taped on my PVR. Sheesh, wonder which one I'll choose?? Later peoples! Kiss, kiss... Hug, hug.

Just Sketching Around

Hiya.

I thought I'd throw together a quick Sunday post. Yep, it's late but I've been a very busy bee today. I had ordered a few things off the web for my studio/bedroom. I figured since the living room was getting a makeover, I'd do a little tweaking to my room and make it über functional and cool. My favorite color is green and I also love the coziness of chocolate so I wanted to build on that combination. I had some great pillows but needed a duvet cover and something that said... "artist lives here".

Well, finally everything arrived on Friday afternoon. I bought a chocolate duvet cover with white ferns on the bottom. Also, the oilcloth arrived and I'm covering my painting table and shelving unit in it. It's milk chocolate with lime polka dots. Finally, the pièce de résistance is the wall decal I bought. It's a full height tree with blowing leaves. I've spent the better part of the day attaching the trunk and branches not to mention hundreds of leaves. Whew!! I'll take a picture of the room soon, maybe when the couch arrives and everything is finished. Hopefully, only a week or so away. Yippee!!

The other thing I've been doing is at night I'm doodling bookmarks. I have off cuts of paper left over all the time and I figure it gives me something to do in the evening and they're fast and fun. Hopefully I can sell them in Etsy. *crosses fingers*. Here's the newest idea. Monograms.

Anyway, that's it for tonight. I'll be back on Tuesday with a mosaic. Oh, and I'm off coffee for a while so wanna have some tea with me? Yes? Cool!

An Imperfect Life

I have a new painting to showcase and I also finally completed the sunflower I've had kicking around here for weeks waiting to brought into the colorful life. Let's do the sunflower first, shall we?

Name: "The Sunflower"
size: 5x7

This little guy is a mixture of mediums. I used copic markers for the background and leaves then added watercolors to the petals and center. I like the center for this flower more than the one I did for the daisies so long ago but I'm still not totally happy with it. It's so hard to capture the look of pollen and seeds. The shading and curve of the middle is really difficult to capture accurately.

The main piece I have to show I'm really happy with. It came out just as I hoped it would. The concept behind it is how we organize our thoughts and memories in virtual "boxes" in our mind. We can go to those places and pull out memories any time we want. I was thinking about this when the concept for this painting came to me. I thought that in reality, those boxes never stay neat and organized. They influence and affect each other in unexpected ways. One memory triggering another, sometimes it seems, randomly. It made me think of how Life is imperfect, but still beautiful. I hope that makes some sense, lol. What I did to capture my idea in paint was to make boxes on the paper and fill them each with their own color. Then, for some of them, I allowed the color next to it to influence it's neighbor. It's subtle but I think it turned out beautifully. :o) The title of the piece is "Imperfect Life".

I'm going to get on to both opening my Etsy store and organizing my sketchbook for the sketchbook project. I'm thinking I'll do 10 full pages, paint them, fold each of them in half and bind them together. Then I'll go back and do other artwork on the blank half pages that get created from the backs of the full pages. I sure hope that works. I still have no idea what to do about the cover. Anyone have any suggestions??

Anyways, it's bedtime, see you all soon!

Color: Turquoise

1. When I look into your eyes, I can see the Sea . . ., 2. my favorite bird stamp (:, 3. Finch embroidery, 4. Feathers of a peacock

I'm thinking of turquoise today because we got some news. Our new sofa is in. It's sitting in the warehouse of La-Z-Boy as we speak, waiting to be our new and wonderful piece of furniture. It will be delivered in a week when the new chair is also ready. It's been delayed a little so instead of delivering twice we're waiting for the whole order to be ready. I can't wait to show you all pictures of the transformation we did to the apartment. :o)

Talk soon? K!

Game Play

I've been tagged by Kim of Kimminita. Now I'm "IT" and I have to answer several questions about me to let you know me better. Then I tag four other unsuspecting bloggers. Hehehe. This game of tag started all the way across the water, as Kim lives in the Neatherlands. Isn't it fun that one can get to know so many widespread people because we all blog?

Here we go!

4 Things in my Purse:
♥ Three different kinds of lip gloss because I'm addicted to it.
♥ A mirror for applying the lip gloss. ;o)
♥ An antique handkerchief with my initial embroidered on it.
♥ A plastic cork screw. Just in case some day I need to open a bottle of wine on the fly. Ya, don't ask me.

4 Things in my Desk:
♥ A ziplock bag of AAA and AA rechargeable batteries and a little recharger. I hate not having batteries ready when I need them.
♥ A lime green laptop vacuum with USB plug. It works great to keep the keyboard free of crumbs!
♥ 1001 kinds of pens. I have to go through those and "Thin the Herd". Hehehe.
♥ Lots of bookmark sized pieces of watercolor paper. When I cut down larger pieces of paper there's always little off cuts left over and I keep them for future bookmarks. Can you say compulsive??

4 Favorite Things in my Bedroom:
♥ The new tree with blowing leaves wall decal that just arrived and was hung today. WOW!
♥ The luxurious decorative pillows all over my bed.
♥ My art shelves where I keep all my supplies totally organized.
♥ My own bathroom. My room's a suite, it's so nice not to have to share a bathroom with anyone.

4 Things I Always Wanted to Do (but haven't yet):
♥ Learn to do calligraphy. I'm fascinated by cursive and other beautiful lettering.
♥ Take self defense of martial art lessons.
♥ Learn about the world by experiencing it. I'd love to visit Paris, Scotland, England, Hawaii and Rome.
♥ I want to swim in a warm ocean, like go down to one of the Caribbean islands and immerse myself in both the water and their culture for a couple of months.

4 Things I Enjoy Very Much at the Moment:
♥ Painting.
♥ Meeting new people in the blogging community.
♥ Learning about the limits of my artistic ability and new techniques.
♥ A good cup of coffee.

4 Songs I Can't Get Out of My Head:
♥ "You Are My Sunshine" because I sing it to my parrot at bedtime so she knows it's sleeping time.
♥ "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga... who knows why stuff gets stuck up there.
♥ "Amazing Grace". It was my grandfather's favorite song so sometimes it pops into my head for no reason and I know he's "around". :o)
♥ "Jingle Bells"... I always start to think of Christmas as September rolls around. I'm definitely an early bird, but I just love the season so much.

4 Things you Don't Know About Me:
♥ I can whistle extraordinarily well. I can even keep up with my parrot!
♥ When I was nine I entered a coloring contest and won 1000 tulip bulbs.
♥ I think ducks are one of the cutest animals on the planet, their orange feet make me laugh. They're like God's comic relief.
♥ I know how to play the ukulele and was really good when I was in grade school.

Ok, now I'm tagging four people...
  1. Tracy of Pen & Paper
  2. Star from Star, Simplified
  3. Jessica of My Scrappy Corner
  4. Nancy from Blissed-Out Grandma
I'll be back soon with new art for show & tell. Later peoples!

It's Been So Long...

Gosh, I can't believe it's been more than a week since I posted anything. This is the longest I've gone on a post hiatus. I apologize for disappearing. I really have to get my sh*t together. lol. You know when you feel like you have too darn many balls in the air and you just don't know which one to pluck out of the plethora and finish it? Ya, like that. So...

First, I have definitely decided to rebind my Moleskine for the Sketchbook Project 2011. I just cannot work with the thin paper that it comes with. I've done some research on how to bind a book and I've found a few great resources. The first resource, Moleskine Reloaded, shows me how to make sections and bind them together. The 140 lb paper is so thick that I'm thinking each folded sheet will be it's own "signature" (a signature is a section of a book). Then I found this great video on youtube that teaches how to make a hard cover for a book. I think I'm going to find a way to use the cover that comes with the moleskine sketchbook and add 30'ish pages plus a spine to make up my own sketchbook that still has the same dimensions of the original sketchbook.

This week I've been thinking about how we all have hopes and dreams. These thoughts obviously influenced what I put down on paper, lol. I did a zentangle about wishing and also a fun little note card. I'm also in the middle of a sunflower, it needs a background and the seed head finished. Depicting the seeds are what have me stumped so far. We'll see how it turns out.

Anyway, sorry about the absence, I'm back on the job now! :o) See you all soon!

Oh My, Tuesday Again???

Wow, I can't believe I not only missed last Tuesday's mosaic with Artmind but that it's Tuesday AGAIN!! Time sure does fly by. Lately I've been getting nothing done and dropping a lot of preverbal balls. I've been squirrelling waaay too much. Those of you who know me understand what I'm referring to. For those who are now looking a little confused, just click this link and read. I really do have to get a hold on myself, lol. :o) Here's my squirrel mosaic for this Tuesday. If you want to participate just go here, make your mosaic and post it on Mitsy's blog.

On another, completely different note... I've discovered a terrific baking company based in Victoria (B.C., Canada) that has branched out into making wonderful gluten free products. Yippee!! They make the only bread I've been able to find that tastes good. They also make lemon loaf cake and other flavors... but the bestest news is that they make chocolate chip cookies!!! Oh my, I'm so happy I could do a jig. The company is called Portofino Bakery and I talked to one of the owners today. He said they will be adding other gluten free products like muffins to their repetoire soon and they already sell gluten free pizza crusts to Villages Pizza!! This find will make living with gluten sensitivities so much easier. Yay. :o)

We'll talk soon, K? I'll bring the cookies, now that I can have them again! :o)
